Description

Moxey Alexander Rigby, who graduated from New York Law School in 1925, was elected to the Nassau County District Court in 1959, becoming the first African American judge elected in Nassau County. Born in the Bahamas, East Indies, Judge Rigby worked as a waiter at an Elks Club to pay for his law school tuition. Earlier in his career, Judge Rigby served as a Nassau County Assistant District Attorney through many administrations, beginning in 1941.
