Description

Join us for an evening of entertainment and be a jury member at The Trial of Travis Bickle. In 1976, the world of cinema changed when a troubling psycho-drama bled its way across America's movie screens. Still famous today, Robert De Niro's portrayal of an armed Travis Bickle rehearsing threats in front of a mirror-"You talkin' to me?"-gives us a real glimpse into an off-kilter mind. This title character of Martin Scorsese's classic film Taxi Driver is the focus of our trial. In the film, after killing three men and emancipating an adolescent girl from prostitution, Travis is heralded as a hero by the media, as shown by the newspaper clippings taped to his walls towards the end of the film. The would-be presidential assassin even has an opportunity to get the girl of his dreams at the end, but he spurns her instead. Tonight, we pick up where Travis left off and present the facts in the case of a man who reached the end of his rope. Help us figure out his fate and whether or not he's a criminal.
