Lewis Steel gives a talk with the University of South Carolina History Center titled "The 1971 Attica Prison Rebellion and Aftermath: Reflections on a Pivotal Episode in Post-Civil Rights America" at the University of South Carolina School of Law, Karen J. Williams Courtroom. Steel was one of a select few “observers” invited inside the walls of Attica following the prisoner’s rebellion on September 9, 1971. He discusses his experience inside Attica, its connection to the prisoner’s rights movement, and its place in the history of a post-Civil Rights America.
